What the Pattern Means: Pamor Bonang Sarenteng

The motif of the Bonang Sarenteng/Rinenteng pamor is a combination of circular and straight lines symbolizing prosperity, protection, and the achievement of goals/aspirations. "Bonang" itself is one of the traditional Javanese musical instruments or gamelan, which is round and arranged in rows, each producing different tones. "Bonang" is an abbreviation of the words 'babon' and 'menang', which means that true victory is in overcoming our own desires. Bonang carries the implicit message that humans should control themselves and not indulge in desires, as true winners are those who can control their desires.
